We are the Reckers'

We taught Ryan is full name and now when you ask him his name he will say "Ryan Reckers."  He really understands what a last name is, because I am now "Mommy Reckers", Rob is "Daddy Reckers", and Lillian is "Baby/Lilly Reckers."  Adorable!

I Can Sit Up!!!

Lilly has been sitting up for about a week.  I finally got some pictures of her this morning.

Words I don't like to hear

"Uh Oh Mommy!  Big Mess!" is what I heard while I was in the other room.  I ran out to find this.

Yes, that is my cell phone in the middle of the rice krispies.  He continued to eat them by the spoonful.  Lesson learned- put the box of cereal away after breakfast.  To make this story even better, about 15 minutes later (and a clean kitchen), Ryan starts pointing to his nose and saying his nose hurt.  When I asked him why, he told me there was a rice krispie in his nose.  I examined his nose and didn't see anything, but he was clearly uncomfortable.  I put a call into my mom, who assures me that it will dissolve in the nasal mucous (aka boogers) and come out.  A little while later we left the house.  The sun made him sneeze and sure enough, there were some remnants of a rice krispie involved.

Below are just some more pictures of Ryan eating his favorite things.  Sugar, dessert, and more sugar.  Must have Rob's taste buds!

At first he was a little freaked out that his tongue was blue, but got over it pretty quickly and was excited to learn that blue lollipops (or as Ryan calls them "POPS!") turn his tongue blue.

Adorable Outfit for an Adorable Girl

<>  <><>

This adorable outfit is courtesy of Lori.  It is one of my favorites, so I am very happy that she can finally fit into it!

Lillian is such a happy little girl.  I feel so lucky that she is so easy.  The only things that get her mad are being hungry or tired.  Occasionally when she is bored she gets fussy, but even that is rare.  She still loves all baby food and is sitting up on her own for short periods of time.  She hates to be on her belly, so no signs of even trying to crawl.  Which is ok by me for now.  When she is mobile, lots will change.  She sleeps 8 pm - 8 am with one feeding around 5 am.  She will wake around 2am or 3am, but I just put her back to sleep and she is ok.  She still loves to stare at Ryan and watch his every move.  She giggles and smiles most of the day.  I haven't met a happier baby!

Tummy Time

I am not sure when Lillian will crawl, if ever.  She doesn't like being on her belly and never rolls from back to belly (even though I have seen her do it twice).  So I have been trying to encourage tummy time more and more.
Ryan loves chatting with Lillian during her tummy time.  She really doesn't like to be on her belly very long so this helps her enjoy the process.
He loves his sister so much.  I hope the affection for one another continues.

Bathtime

We decided to try and give both kids a bath at the same time.  While it made for a few cute photo ops, Lillian is still a little too small for the bath tub ring.  She is back in her infant tub for another month or so.  Ryan wasn't so sure what to think of Lillian being in "his" bathtub.  At first he protested, but after a few minutes he liked having her there.  The next night when we gave Ryan his bath, he insisted on sitting in "baby's seat" until he realized he couldn't slide around and play like he normally does.

Jumper

We pulled out the beloved door jumper today for Lillian.  So far she doesn't have the same enthusiasm that Ryan did.  He would spend up to an hour at a time in the jumper.  Lillian liked it, but for only a few minutes.  We will continue to put her in it in hopes that she will take to it like Ryan did.

Toys

Sophie the Giraffe!
Lillian is really into toys.  She grabs for them and holds them very very well.  I have to say her fine motor skills are pretty impressive at this age.  This morning she was on the floor and I caught her examining one of Ryan's flashcards in front of her face.  He must have dropped it near her and she managed to pick it up.
This is a silly face.  Notice he is sitting in a basket again.

Playing with his new toy.  This has been on my list of toys to buy for Ryan. Since he knows all of his letters now I decided to buy it for him on his first day of school.  Mom guilt?  Definitely!  But he loves it as much as he did at his friend Eva's house.  Since our fridge is stainless and magnets won't stick to it, I am using a cookie sheet.

Ryan's First Day of School

Ryan started school on Tuesday!  We had meet the teacher day the previous Thursday so he was able to meet Ms. Kelley and Ms. Bobbie.  I was worried that he would get confused if I mentioned Ms. Bobbie to him since he calls my mom Bobbi (nothing we encourage and we still refer to her as Grammy, but something he picked up).  When we walked in he yelled "Bobbie" and she yelled "Hi Ryan".  They clearly knew each other from last year. So on Tuesday we got him up, made breakfast, got dressed, and left.  He wanted to ride with Daddy.  We got there and he was fine, wore his back pack into school.  Walked to his classroom and we started to say our goodbyes.  Then came the giant tears!   He started crying hysterically.  It was so sad.  Rob and I just had to leave him and listen to the crying.  When I picked him up his teacher said he cried for just a minute or two and was fine.  Thank goodness!  Thursday he didn't cry, but he did get a very sad face.  His report cards have been super positive and they say how happy and independent he is!  Of course, we are so proud of our little guy.  I find myself missing him while he is gone since we have spent every day together this summer.  But I think it is best for the both of us to get a bit of a break.  Besides, his school is so great and I am already excited about everything they plan on learning this month!  They gave me a breakdown of each day and what is the learning focus and activity planned.  This makes it fun for me to start preparing him each day.
